Installation & Setup
Reverse osmosis systems are typically installed underneath your kitchen sink, connecting to your cold water supply. Installation generally involves:
- A connection to the mains water line
- A drainage point for the system’s wastewater
- Space for a 10L storage tank
- A dedicated faucet for filtered water

The installation process is usually straightforward and can be completed in under two hours for most homes.
Maintenance & Aftercare
To keep your RO system running at peak performance, ongoing maintenance is essential. The best part is that it’s simple to keep your filter in optimal condition:
- Pre Membrane Cartridges are designed to protect the membrane and should be replaced every 6-12 months, depending on usage and water quality.
- Post Membrane Cartridges will last 12 months and are used to reactivate the water once it has gone through the membrane.
- The RO Membrane typically lasts two to three years before needing replacement.
- Flushing The System should be done during filter changes or if the system hasn’t been used for an extended period.

Is RO Water Safe To Drink Long Term?
Yes, RO water is safe to drink long term provided the post membrane cartridges include mineralisation and alkalising. It’s free from contaminants and ideal for sensitive users. Systems that have all three cartridges post membrane: mineraliser, alkaliser and far-infrared, deliver the smoothest, best tasting alkaline water.
Can I Install An RO System Myself?
DIY installation is possible if you are confident with basic plumbing. The setup involves connecting to your cold water line and installing a drain and separate tap. For a smooth or stress free installation experience, working with an experienced installer is recommended.
How Often Do I Need To Replace Filter Cartridges?
Pre and post filter cartridges should be changed every 6-12 months, while RO membranes typically last 2-3 years. A drop in flow rate before the 12 month mark generally indicates that your pre-membrane cartridges need changing.
Will It Affect My Water Pressure?
RO systems only affect water pressure at the dedicated filtered water tap, not your entire home’s supply. You may notice a slightly slower flow rate compared to unfiltered taps, as the water is pushed through several fine filtration layers. However, this is normal and ensures thorough purification.
