The Resin filter cartridge reduces hardness and scale deposits in water, leaving all the benefits of soft, gentle, clear water. Convenient, compact design means that softened water can be provided at point-of-use.
Hard Water contains dissolved minerals in the form of Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg), and Iron (Fe). Removal of these minerals is accomplished by softening the water through an ion exchange process using water softener resin.
Our resin cartridge contains a 10” column, filled with polymer resin beads. The small beads create a large surface area in contact with water as it flows past.
The resin is made of polymer that binds positively charged ions. Initially the polymer surface is saturated with sodium ions, meaning that there are sodium ions available on the surface of the ion exchange resin. These ions are weaker than calcium & magnesium ions. The polymer is designed specifically to bind more strongly to the calcium & magnesium ions, than to the sodium ions.
When the hard water flows past the 1000’s of resin polymer beads, the calcium & magnesium ions will bind to the polymer, displacing the sodium ions into the water. These sodium ions are removed by the next cartridge.
Fits all standard 10″ big blue filter housing with easy installation/replacement.

Falls Short on Chlorine Removal
I purchased the 10” x 4.5” Resin Water Softener Cartridge from WestOz Water Filters (Invoice: INV-1355, dated 7 Mar 2025, Ref: AquaPlus2164), expecting a high-performance product given its price. Unfortunately, I was misguided by the cost, assuming it would deliver on all its advertised claims.
While it does help reduce hard water scaling, it fails to remove chlorine odor and smell, despite what’s stated on the website. For the price, I expected better filtration performance, especially with the inclusion of granulated activated carbon media.
Overall, it’s a decent softener, but not worth the premium if you’re looking for full chlorine and odor removal.
